Got exactly the same problem with a 460, plenty of ink, carriage moves,
no print. Suspect head or PSU/logic board. Tried many clean cycles.
Got another 460 s/h, it works fine. Dead one might be useful for spares,
or landfill.
Suspect PSU/logic since usually one, or perhaps a few jets, will fire and print,
so the fault is something common to all jets, ie the logic board.

I assume you mean STYLUS 440 and 460. The replaceable printhead under
the cartridges is clogged. When they will not clear using the cleaning
cycles it means they have dried solid and replacement of the head is
next.

http://www.maxpatchink.com/epsonclean.shtml is a head cleaning kit,
not sure it will work - up to you to chance trying it.

http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/epson/Inkjet/sc440.htm is a Q&A out of the
UK on the 440 with manuals you can download.

The Epson printhead for the 440 is Epson part number F058000 and
carries a list price of $65.83

Is that 460 or 640 on the seond model you mention - and I should have
said Stylus Color not just Stylus that covers the 440/640/740 -
printhead replacement is in it and pretty simple.

In almost all cases, the print head can easily be unclogged with a few
bucks of household cleaning products. These printers probably do not
need new printer heads, and quite honestly, the cost of the head makes
it poor economy to replace them.
