Hi,

I bought an epson 4180 scanner, and as I am mostly working under linux,
I would like to be able to use it under Linux (debian sid kernel 2.6.9)

I was very confident in vuescan, downloaded version 8.1.4, but it
answers me: no scanner found ?!?! Whereas sanefindscanner found it, but
as there is no support in sane for the moment, I can not scan with sane.

Does anyone manage to scan with epson 4180 under Linux?

Thanks for any help

Mike, I had the same issue. I think it comes down to the fact that
Vuescan won't see your scanner if the driver is not installed. On top
of the fact that this scanner isn't recognized by the epson_sane
backend, it also needs a firmware file, like the Epson 3170.

Epson Kowa (http://epkowa.co.jp) writes the Linux drivers for Epson,
and they say the Linux driver will support this eventually. If you
check out the sane-devel mailing list archives, you will find
discussion about this.

Once the epkowa driver supports the Epson 4180, Vuescan will see the
scanner.

Ok, it seems that I have no other choice than waiting then...
Thanks Matt for you answer!
