When I scan a text document using the Smart Panel "Edit Text" function
(which opens "Abby FineReader Sprint 5.0), the option to "Save as text"
is not enabled. Only the photo image file types are available.

However, if I open the Abby FineReader Sprint 5.0 program directly,
instead of through Epson Smart Panel, the option to "Save as text" is
available.

Am I doing something wrong? The documentation clears states "The
easiest way of perform OCR is by using the Edit Text feature in the
Epson Smart Panel..."

Thanks for any help.

Maybe the documentation is wrong. I have seen lots of errors in
documentation and help files for many programs.

Sometimes the manufacturer will post a update or FAQ on their web site that
corrects the error. Sometimes in Readme.txt file on the CD.

I would do what works!

I received an answer promptly when I contacted ABBY technical support.
After the Epson Smart Panel OCR scan is completed and ABBY is open, you
then click "Read" and the "Save text as" options are enabled.

Why didn't I think of that? Very embarrassing.
