have a 2400 scanner with built in TPU and use Vuescan.

We have got a 3170 scanner at work and are not using the the TPU cover as we
have the feeder attached.

Whilst the 3170 scanner won't fit in the 2400 lid holes it sits on the glass
OK and the light lead connects OK.

Can I make Vuescan use the 3170 commands to drive the 2400 with the 3170 TPU
attached so I can scan medium format negs and 2 strips of 35mm at once?

Any way of forcing Vuescan to pretend it is using a 3170?

Thanks

It depends on the firmware in the 2400 and whether it is 'forward
compatible.'

Epson sets the scan area according to the transparency adapter that
the firmware recognizes. The software isn't involved at all in this
limit. That's what sets the maximum width of the scan when using the
2400 transparency adapter. If you try it let us know how it works.

I tried it.

I can scan OK but it does not recognise the wider TPU light source. So I can
scan a 6x6 but the edges get cropped by VUESCAN no matter what size I make
the neg width. The same with the double 35mm carrier

The maximum scan area must be in the firmware of the 2400 so it ignores the
light source size but recognises that if you use the TPU there is a certain
area that is illuminated.

Ah well I will have to take the 6x6 negs to work and scan them :-)

You've made an interesting finding because many of us with 2400s were
trying to find a way around the scan width limit (and never did).

BTW, the older 4x5 transparency adapter does work with the 2400.
Unfortunately it costs about as much as the scanner - here is the
info:
