Having a problem scanning slides and film negatives with Epson Scan
software ver. 2.32A in Mac OS X 10.3.7.
Software sends back error message that it can't detect film and then
outputs totally black image. I think I have all settings selected
properly. Wondering if it's a hardware problem with the scanner. It's
now out of warrantee...didn't try scanning slides during first year.
Other info:
USB connection

Check that the cable to the TransParency Adapter (TPA) is correctly plugged
in in the rear of scanner. (The Lid)

Some of the Epson 2400 had a protective cover over the Transparency adapter
Lid light, make sure you have removed it for Transparency scans.

If there is a separate power adapter for the TPA, make sure it has power.

Wiggle the plug. Turn off the scanner then turn back on after the TPA is
plugged in.
Restart the TWAIN software.

Start a Slide or Negative scan, lift the lid, see if the light in the lid is
on and the bottom (reflective) lamp is off.

Sounds exactly what happened to me one day when I went to scan a few slides.
Came up with the same error message. Solution - DAH... I forgot to remove
the cover "document mat" that goes over the light in the scanner cover.
