Epson 1270 suddenly terrible print quality

We've been using the Epson Stylus Photo 1270 for some time now and had
gotten great prints, but lately the color has been terribly off (looks
like old Technicolor movies) and when I use photo glossy the ink tends
to pool and dry, giving the print a very sloppy, mottled look. the
high quality matte paper just gets blurry.
This problem has spanned a couple of rounds of cartridges. I have
taken it apart and cleaned whatever parts I could find that had ink on
them, but to no avail. I have tested the images by printing on other
printers and they came out fine. Any ideas?

Have you changed paper types? Using the same ink? Run a nozzle
check/cleaning cycle?

if the the print cartridges your buying are generic switch to geniune, (I
can help there), but I do know that some printers have refills but people
dont switch out the print head.. see if you can swictch out the head,
shouldnt be too expensive

yep, it's the same ink that we always use. I ran a nozzle check and
the test strip came out perfect, but I ran a cleaning cycle anyways.
The paper is the same Epson photo glossy (and the same Epson
high-quality 360 dpi inkjet paper), and I indicated the correct paper
in the print command box. hmm... a mystery. It just seems like too
much ink is getting squirted out at once

Epson Photo Glossy or Epson *Premium* Photo Glossy?

If you use the former and set for the latter then you will get the
effect that you describe. There is a big difference in the ink
requirements of these papers.

Also, check the Mode setting on the Main properties page. If you have
this set to custom and vivid tone then you can get similar effects.

However, it sounds more likely to be a colour management issue. What
changes have you made to your operating system or printing package
recently? You say the images print well on another printer - perhaps
you are using that printer's profile in your colour management.
