I've been using my 1270 very little, but it's always been a reliable
printer, that is until today. Now it's suddenly printing only solid
black pages (soaked through with ink of all colors), and I can't
figure out why it has suddenly gone bonkers.

Re-installed the proper drivers, also changed from parallel to USB
port, also changed cartridges, also tried a similar driver for the
Epson 900. Is this printer ready for the junk heap after printing
maybe 100 pages at most?

Thanks for any help!!

Matt,

Have you checked the print heads for clogging ???

I exchanged the 007 (black) and 009 (color) with another Epson
printer, model 900. Does the same thing, also the cartridges from the
1270 work fine in the the 900. Also reset the EPROM in the 1270,
didn't do any good. Took it into the service depot today ($98 minimum
charge).

Had the same problem (on photo 950/960), took to epson repair lab, and
was told my print head had been damaged (apparantly this is quite
common....) Had to have this mended :(

Have you done a nozzle check? What is it showing?
Nothing but bad news. The repair tech called yesterday to say that
the "main board is bad," and that replacement cost is $190 + $50
labor. Then on top of that, he said the heads might need replacing
too. Sure strange, I bought the printer new and am only on my second
set of ink cartridges--it gets used very little. Anyway, it's only
good for scrap now, took my carts out of it and threw the rest.
