I am trying to use the SSC Service Utility to reset the chip on the ink
cartridges of my Espon Stylus Photo 1270. The problem is the program won't
even talk to the printer. No matter what I try to do the program gives me
the error "Printer off, or some other problem!". Any ideas? I am using
Windows 2K with the latest versions of everything. Has anyone made this
program work under Windows 2K? Has anyone made this program work on the
1270?

Mine is also a 1270 and I've had no luck whatever using the SSC
Service Utility v3.10. Running XP, it just comes up with some empty
folders and hangs up. However, I have had good results with another
program, "InkLevel v4.03." There is a demo on their website that will
reset your black cartridge only, but at least you'll know that the
program will work for you, it costs $12 to download, just do a search
for "inklevel" to find sources.

OTOH, the $8 cartridge resetters work fine on the T007/T009 cartridges
(and all the others too), and you generally want to remove the
cartridge anyway for refilling. Even the InkLevel program is much
more limited in terms of the number of different Epson
printers/cartridges it can be used with.

I've figured out how to make the SSC Service Utility work. It must be
started when there is no empty color cartridge in the printer.

The program works fine with the 1270, and I have used it often. I use
it with Win98SE though...

Hi...if you have other printers or faxes in your folder...it will not
communicate with the printer.
It is a fine utility. Although it will not reset my C82 carts.

Of course it will - I just counted and I have 10 different printers in
the folder, some Epson, some HP, some faxes and an HPGL plotter. It
talks fine to both Epson printers irrespective of the printer folder
content or which printer is the default.

It may have been an older version...it was also in the 'help file' to
remove other printers-if comm fails.
