ok, my son't computer I thought wasn't booting at all we would get to the boot screen that says HP on it. and the esc, f10 etc options.

anyways I left it one day forgetting to turn it off from that and when I went to shut it down it made the windows shut down music. So I thought it was working I turned it back on.. and.. nope still at blue screen so I just shut the monitor off and from checking it and what I can see.. it takes like over a day for windows to load....
from blue load screen to windows up, but once loaded it seems fine.

not even sure what to think or where to start considering what the problem is

Any ideas?

Could me a number of things.

First, you need to post the BSOD message if you have one

Second remove all hardware except GFX card (if separate) and hard drive

Try again.

If still same I would guess bad sectors all over the hard drive

Buy a new new reinstall windows if you have a copy or borrow one from a friend.

Make sure you get correct version for your PC look for sticker on side of machine

Welcome to the forum, and ya welcome

My apologies

BSOD = Blue Screen of Death

Usually an error message/warning with lots of digits equaling a failure code that can be looked up on the net

there is no blue screen of death, it is straight from power on.. it hits the hp load screen, and sits there (that screen happens to be blue... kinda symbolic) but after I leave it for like 18 hours.... windows xp loads up.

Have you tried booting in safe mode??....using the f10 button for start up options, choose safe mode and then see what happens. You might be able to tell more then. Post back and let us know.

well I can't even get safe mode, even when I disconnected everything excpet the bare essentials like the graphic card as suggested above, unless I plan on standing tehre for 18 hours hitting f0, I will never get it into boot mode, for now, while we got it to power on, we have just left it on I have run the rror checking and the anti virus several times and neither have come up with anything

I would download Kanotix and burn it to a CD. Use it to recover and back up any folders and files you maay want to keep from the dodgy pc. Then I would do a full clean install of Windows. As mentioned before if you have a Microsoft product code (should be a sticker on the side of the pc) then you can use a CD you own or borrow one from a friend to do the install.

:)
