Eorror openning Excel 97 File

Dear sir,
i encounter this error when attempt to open a Excel
97 file from a diskette:
"Book1.xls can not be accesssed. The file may be read-
only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location.
Or the server the document is stored on may not be
responding."

FYI, these are the the infor & what i hav done :
a. The file properties don't checked on the read-only
feature
b. The file is not set to be protected by any password.
c. i tried to open the file using Office XP (repair even
extract the data option)
d. Save the file to PC & open the file fr PC
e. Scan the floppy disk
f. Copy the file to the PC, format the diskette. No bad
sector found. Put back the file in diskette
g. i create a new file & store in this diskette. i can
open the file that i created

However, i still failed to open this Excel file.
What is the root cause ? Thk u.

Only thing to add to what you've tried is that you should NEVER open from or save to a floppy disk
directly. This is a no no that Microsoft have themselves documented. You could try opening it
with a program called OpenOffice that is available as a free download from www.openoffice.org, as
this has been know to open Excel file that even Excel can't open. (A 50MB download though).

If you didn't want to download it then by all means fire the file on down to me and I'll give it a
go with OpenOffice for you. You would need to take the NOSPAM bit out of my email address though.
