environment varibale length

hi,

i am running windows 2000 pro, SP4.

When I try to add a Environment/System varibale the
maximum no is limited to 128.

when I type path from command prompt I get only 128 chars,
which makes some of my applications not functioning.

Whats the maximum limit, how do I change this?
