If this message needs to be posted in a distributed computing forum,
please let me know.

Other then turning on and configuring Windows File Sharing, are there
any products or strategies that others are using to synchronize file
copying/sharing/backup/distribution across an Enterprise? I use the
term Enterprise meaning something that works in a WAN environment and
can be counted on to work 24x7, and can hopefully be monitored
remotely.

We have 6 remote offices. Each one is linked to our headquarters using
a dsl/vpn connection. The speed varies so that some offices have a
very fast connection, and others are much slower.

In each office, I need to have the contents in certain folders on
certain workstations copied up to a respective repository folder
sitting on a machine in our headquarters. The general rules for
copying are if a new file is added, or an existing file changes in any
way, it should be copied. If a file is deleted, the backup should
remain in the repository.

I need a mechanism/program that will perform that work without fail
after it's been configured. I also would like to be able to set the
time of the movement depending on the speed of the connection. Because
of the slow connection, I need something that can take into account
connections being slow or being dropped, and being able to resume if
the copy fails. It also should have some form of logging or auditting
so I can quickly prove that it's doing it's job.

I'd rather buy a proven solution then build from scratch. So if you
have any commercial solutions that work for my general scenario, I'm
interested. I know I can build something custom, and I can also adapt
XXCOPY to do the same. But the key word is Enterprise. It must work
24x7 without fail, and I want it now, not six months from now.

Thanks,
Eric

Might want to check out DoubleTake (www.sunbelt-software.com) for one
option, although there are several out there. I haven't used any so can't
speak to their reliability, but I have heard good things about DoubleTake.
