Enterprise antivirus that doesn't stick to your system likebuttermilk pancakes.

Could anyone recommend an enterprise antivirus solution for a network
with more than 100 computers?

I have tried Symantec Endpoint protection, and well it's more like a
virus than many of the so called viruses I have seen.

I want something that just catches viruses and spyware.

I don't want a firewall
I don't want a anti spam solution
I don't want a privacy guard
I don't want a intrusion detection system
I don't want a self monitoring tampering system
I don't want a centralized quarantine server
I don't want a centralized SQL database reporting server that gets
overloaded with messages
and crashes


I just want a file system scanning antivirus program thats easily
deployable and WORKS. Symantec Endpoint protection also has a NASTY
habit of letting spyware right past it I might add. So after done
installing a 500 MB behemoth it still doesn't do the job while only
slowing down everyone's computer.

Does anyone program software that is light, fast, and does the job
anymore?

Please could someone recommend an antivirus solution that is not
riddled with feature bloat! After all the whole point is so that we
can use our computers!!!

If you're getting "Spyware" on a 100 node network then you don't have
your firewall configured properly.

Symantec EPP works quite well, having it on thousands of nodes around
the country.

There is also the older, Symantec 10.x Corporate version.

As for not wanting central, well, that could also be part of your
problem, you won't know if the users are not getting daily updates, and
you should be changing the default so that they update at least 1 time
per day or more often.

On a properly configured firewall solution you can block all malicious
content in email, from web browsing, from FTP, etc...

With users not running a local admins it makes it even harder to
compromise their machines.

If you implement web-content blocking on a network with 100 nodes,
purchasing quality firewall service add-on's could pay for themselves in
the productivity you get back.

braindead apps that require local administrator. I just don't like the
load Symantec puts on the clients. Corp edition 10.2 was bad enough
with the introduction of tamper protection. But now with the addition
of the network firewall and intrusion detection in EPP I don't really
see the added value.

Symantec products are akin to Adobe Acrobat reader. You need a 450 mb
install of bloat to read a 250K PDF. I'm looking for something more
along the lines of Foxit reader.

You do know that you can not deploy any part you want to leave out,
right?

We never install the Network part of SEPP and we always set them to not
scan on logon by the users.

remotely also - never saw a reason to do that.

I think I may go this route. I had a horrible time with the SQL server
that does the reporting. At one point it was gobbling up the disk with
logs. I then found out there was a bug in the reporting that caused
the centralized logging to go haywire and go crazy logging. After
having experience with Symantec now since about 2001 back in the heady
days of 7.6 the newer versions just seem to be plauged by feature
bloat. I just want a lightweight centralized antivirus program, that
doesn't need a backend full of SQL servers to manage. Maybe I should
be asking for a small business offering, since anything "Enterprise"
usually has a ton of junk that gets in the way of productivity most of
the time.
