Hi All

i have a friend who says that she used to have a workbook where she would
type 8.3 into a cell and it would automatically change to 8:30 etc .. .after
her system was upgraded (don't know the specifics) this no longer works ...
any ideas?

Cheers

Hi Frank

thanks for your response - she thought it was something to do with custom
formats but we couldn't replicate it and the one you suggested when i type
in 8.3 i get 7.12 - any other ideas?

Cheers

Hi Julie
then I would suspect she either had an event macro in this file or she
just remembered incorrectly :-)

Hi Frank

my thoughts entirely, but i thought i would as ask the things that some
people (including yourself, of course) can actually do here continually
amaze me :)

hope you have a great weekend.

1. There was an event macro on the first system that did not get migrated.

2. She is misremembering. You can come close to that scenario by changing the
regional settings to use a '.' for the separator; and then using a custom
format of h:mm in Excel for the display. However, in that case, entering 8.3
would change to 8:03

Just another way for #2.

Change autocorrect to see a dot and replace it with a colon.

(remember to change it back, though)

I thought of that but if that were being done, I'd have thought Julie's friend
would have been aware of that.

Perhaps the time format appeared in a seperate cell? This can b
achieved by entering =(INT(A3)+((A3-INT(A3))/0.6))/24 Where the inpu
of 8.3 is in cell A

Hi Bobby

thanks for the input, i'm getting :07 when i type 7.0 into a cell with your
custom format on it.
