I seem to receive the above dialogue box with increasing regularity. It
presents with my log-in and password details all pre-filled but clicking on
'OK' only succeeds in making it disappear for a few seconds before it
pops-up again. The only way of getting rid of it is to click on 'Cancel'
and it is then removed for 3-4 minutes before appearing again. In the
meantime I can't receive any e-mails (although I can send them OK).

I seem to experience episodes of this that often last several days and then
the problem goes away again for weeks/months.

Any ideas? Highly irritating!

Did you check and recheck your mail profile setup especially for incoming since you are able to send. Call your ISP and have them walk you through the setup

Are you ever able to send mails this way? Are you absolutely sure that
your logon credentials are correct? You can verify them at the ISP's
webmail page.

It's also possible that your ISP is experiencing problems with their
authentication server (which won't be used with webmail), and you must check
with them about this.

I've had very similar and increasingly frequent problems with my ISP's mail
service since they contracted it out to Hotmail. All other non-HM accounts
worked perfectly,. so I eventually just had to migrate away from those
accounts to a regular POP/SMTP provider. None of them exhibit this
behaviour *except* when their servers actually break.

Thanks guys. As I have no problems with my other e-mail accounts I am
begining to think that the issue is with the ISP. Absolutely futile trying
to 'phone them so I'll see what happens over the next day or so ... maybe a
new ISP is needed!

Major details were missing from your post, like:

- WHICH version of Outlook.
- WHICH version of Windows.
- WHAT type of e-mail account (POP, IMAP, HTTP, Exchange).
- WHICH antivirus program you use.
- If e-mail scanning is enabled or disabled in your antivirus program.
- If any other software interrogates your e-mail traffic, like antispam
programs.
