can anyone tell me the key combination to enter the bios
on a compaq pc running Win XP.Device manager shows that
there is no network card installed (there is!) and i want
to check if it is enabled in the bios

reboot your computer. During this process you should see a message telling
you what key to press. For example on my computer there is a message which
says 'Press F1 to enter setup'. Your computer will have something similar.

The fact you're running XP is immaterial. The BIOS has no knowledge of
Windows. If you need BIOS access then may I suggest you read the
documentation that would have been supplied with your system?

Reboot the machine. When the company name, Compaq, displays in big red
letters on the Presario's screen, a cursor should appear in the upper right
hand corner of the screen. Press F10, and instead of booting normally, you
should see the setup screen for the Compaq's BIOS.

Someone, in response to seeing this page, told me that some Compaq machines
have F12 as a BIOS setup key. If F10 brings you no joy, it's worth a try

it's your sig causing the problems. It's got LOTS of blank lines in it.

The operating system is immaterial. Only you know what
motherboard and BIOS you have, so only you know the answer to your
question. ;-}

In the extremely unlikely event that your PC's manual doesn't
contain the needed information, try one or both of the following:

How do I access my computer's setup (BIOS)
http://www.iomega.com/support/documents/2157.html

Wim's BIOS Page
http://www.wimsbios.com/

Accessing Motherboard BIOS
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm

Hint: Compaq uses <F10>
