Hello, everyone
I've got a problem with entering a computer to AD domain. Domain has 3
sites. Primary site has 3 DCs, another ones have 1 DC each. Computer's name
is Cre009 and it had to be entered to primary site. At this time one DC of
the site was down.
When I tried to enter a computer to the domain, I've entered a user name
and password of user permited to enter computers to the domain. About 10
seconds later I've got an error message that DC can't do requested
operation. I started a netword monitor and saw computer has found a proper
(nearest) DC and exchanged with some information. But there was no result.
Then I renamed a computer to Cre010. After renaming I tried to enter
that computer to the domain once again. I've got a message computer can't be
entered to domain as Cre010 because it has been already entered as Cre009.
I've checked and found out that computer was indeed in domain as Cre009.
So now is no problems with that computer. But I didn't understand how
this has happened. So, does anyone have any idea what was happened?
Thanks
Mykhaylo

A lot will depend on exactly "what" error messages you got when you tried to
join that first time etc, but a couple of possiblities would be that the dc
that was down held the fsmo roles for the domain, and/or it was also the
global catalog server. The uniqueness of a name has to be verified in the
gc before it can actually be used.

Unfortunately I don't remember exactly the message that I've got when tried
to join the computer to the domain for first time. But it was something like
"domain controller couldn't complete requested operation".
FSMO roles holds another DC (it's nearest DC toward workstation to join)
GC is on the same DC.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

If it was in the middle of replication with other dc/s etc, but without the
error msg etc it would just be speculation at this point. Sorry
