I enlarged a FAT32 partition with the floppy version of Partition Magic
8.01, the partition shows up fine with it's new enlarged size when
viewed with PM, but the extra space isn't directly available.

Is a format required?

You have enlarged the partition, but not the filesystem? They
are independent to some degree. Creating a new filesystem
will solve the problem. Another option is to enlarge the filesystem
as well. As far as I remember PM does that also. Maybe it nees to be
told explicitely.

However if data-loss is not a problem, just create a new filesystem
(which MS now calls "formattoing", but which is something entirely
different...)
