I have an embedded PDF from which I would like to "cut" specific text and
enlarge it, either in the same slide, or in a different slide. Is this
possible?

Duplicate the image.

Crop the new image to isolate the desired text. Then drag the corners of the
image to enlarge it (hold down the shift key while you're dragging to keep
the image proportionate). Now you've created a "blow out" of the text.

Sometimes Sandy's remedy can cause distortion. I experienced this firsthand
last week. We found that if you have Adobe Acrobat, you could save the PDF
to your computer and open into Adobe Acrobat. Change the size (make it
larger) and use the snapshot tool. The paste the snapshot back into
PowerPoint.
