enhance xp speed

Hi all,

I've just reinstalled xp on my machine 2.2ghz, 512ram, 40gb and now it seems
to be running slower.

I've done the usual stuff i.e. disable xp reporting, change appearance to
basic etc, but still I believe slower than it was.

Any suggestions on a site/or recomendations on enhancements.

Clean out all the Temporary Internet Files. regularly

Dump all of the files in your TEMP folder. regularly

Run a defrag on your hard drive to get all the files back
in order

Keep up with your Anti-Virus updates. at least every week

Back up your DATA. You can replace programs
but your DATA means hours of work for you to input all
the old information.
 
by "basic" appearance I hope you don't mean "classic"
the new winXP appearance is so much 3-D.
 
that is what i mean "classic", it has speeded up my computer, but even after
the other guys suggestions no luck, still missing something.

And David yes I did update all the drivers.

Have you tried emptying the prefetch folder, and defrag afterwards? The prefetch
folder should be cleared out once a week or month, and it should speed it up
since it won't be referencing old/deleted files during bootup.

Get Rid Of Indexing Service On Add\Remove Programs "Windows Components" That
Should Help And Oh Ya Stop Systm Restore Too
 
yeah..turn off system restore...open the trunk of your car and throw out the
spare tire. Then race like hell down the worst roads you can find.
