Hi all. I know it must seem a minor thing to most people but Americanese
spelling urks me. I use English spelling and I want to know how to teach XP
this. I have the enGB spell checker and all that but I want to know how to
change the spelling of "All Programs" in the Start Menu to "All Programmes",
and how to change the way XP spells favourites & color everywhere else (in
the GUI itself). Since XP is available in a variety of languages I cannot
believe it is impossible to achieve this unless Microsoft is deliberately
trying to alienate English users of the non-US variety and that can't be so
can it? Does anybody here know how to do this? I have seen articles on how
to change the text in the Start button for eg. & I know that requires some
pretty exact editing but I'm prepared to do it.
P.S: I know a lot of people don't care how their computer spells but I do.
P.P.S: I know a lot of English-speakers are happy to use "Programmes" when
talking about TV & "Programs" when talking about software but I am not one of
them and I want my children to use an OS which can spell correctly. Any
ideas?

Hi

Try this:

Go into Control Panel>Regional and Language Options and make sure that all
three tabs and submenus are set correctly to the Country where you are.

If I am not mistaken, that word is spelled (or "spelt," if you prefer)
"irks," both in the US and the UK.

It's easy enough to do in Outlook Express.

I'm sometimes quite pedantic about spelling when it comes to features of
software, and I was surprised to see that it is in fact 'color' in the
display properties! I don't have a problem with the use of Programs, as I
believe that to be correct as it is the adapted word for such a context,
but
that's just my opinion.
I'm sorry but I can't offer you any useful advice on changing either, if
you
are familiar with the method of changing the 'Start' text, I am confident
that it's similar.
Regards
