I receive an unknown engine error when trying to install Fritz 8 chess
program. The CD I am using is not at fault. Is there anything on my
computer
that will stop the engine from loading? I have enough memory. Any
assistance
will be gratefully received.
Do you get the initial autorun / splashscreen come up when you put the CD
in? IE before you actually press install? If not, try browsing to the CD
directly (My Computer / Right click CD icon / click browse) and installing
manually by running setup/install.exe.
If you get an error when the setup program is running (ie after you click
Install) try browsing to the setup program as described above, right click
the icon going to properties and then click on the compatibility tab. Try
running it in Windows 9x modes or 2000. You might also want to play around
with the other options on the page if you get no luck with that.
It's also good practise to not have any other applications running in the
background when installing - so make sure anti-virus and other programs are
all disabled first.
