My encryption option is "grayed out" under file/folder
properties in the Advanced tab. My file system is NTFS.
How can I get the encryption option to work?

File encryption is only available with Windows XP Professional.
If you need this feature, purchase the "retail upgrade version" of
Windows XP Professional.

Or, instead of upgrading to XP Pro, obtain an 3rd party application
(free or commerical) which encrypts files. Many have features which make
them particularly attractive and sometimes advantageous over using XP's
encryption.

Or look for a free or shareware encryption package, such as BestCrypt
or the old PGP Disk.
