Hi there

I have a serious problem with win2000. After running a utility called
sysprep 1.01. The system restarted and an install screen appeared. After
answering some question the system restarted once more and I logged into
win2000. After that I couldn’t access the files placed in 2 encrypted
folders. I can delete and rename the files. I can’t manipulate them in
any way (open, copy, move). I can change the permissions but this
doesn’t help. The encrypted data recovery agent has a certificate. Under
intended purpose it says file recovery. The installation still works.
The administrator who has made the certificate is also in the machine

What can I do to open the files?

Sysprep is an utility used to prepare an installation for duplication and removes sid
information on the computer it is run on. You may have a very difficult time
recovering those files if even possible. If data is valuable, you could try
contacting Microsoft Support and they may have a tool that could help. --- Steve

sysprep is designed to remove system specific information and prepare it for
duplication. It effectively kills all of the current SIDs on the system.
Your system most likely cannot associate the files with the keys that
encrypted them. I'm unaware of any way to recover the data, although some of
the other MS people who haunt this group may know more.

I read it but it didn't help. i send some photos of the certificate.
Also how can i be sure that the certificate works, and if it works why
it is not working in my case? And all this from a stupid utility called
sysprep.

In the forth picture is the message i get when i try to decrypt a file

Thank you all in advance

Nothing worked. I think i'm gone do it the classic way. Write the
documents for my work again. The good think is that i loose 1 document
and some programms downloaded

Excuse me miss Microsoft Where in the sysprep documentation CLEARLY says
that it wil ruin my EFS? Only at the first screen says it may modify
some security parameters and i must smell my nails too figure it will
lock my files
