Here's the problem. I have Windows 2000, SP4. My hard
disks have the write cache enabled thru the diskette
utility, the mainboard is an Intel D850EMVR. When I view
the disk settings within Windows, the "Write cache
enabled" check-box is shaded and unselectable. Is there a
way to edit the registry to enable this feature? All
Windows updates are current, as well as the mainboard BIOS
and drivers. The drives are both Maxtor 80gb, less than 4
mos. old.

This may explain why.

I am aware of potential data loss, and taken the needed
steps to prevent any power fluctuations/outage to prevent
this. (battery backup, dual/redundant power supplies) This
is primarily a LAN party game server, and used for
entertainment only, so nothing "critical" to lose!! Is
there a registry edit to manually overcome Windows
limitations?

On some systems it was causing registry corruption on almost every shutdown.
You may need to back down to SP2 in order to have the option again.
