Hi folks

I see there are plenty of us with networking probs ! I've
just set up a wireless network between my desktop, Adsl
connected, and a new Acer laptop, which has built in
802.11b. The USB wireless adapter on the desktop works
fine since I initialy disabled Zone Alarm, now the
firewall sees MSHOME and we can share files and printing.

The desktop is XP Home, and the laptop XP Pro.

Big problem is I cannot enable ICS on the host - the
desktop. I've tried it logged on (BT Internet Broadband)
and logged off - and get "Error 2 - cannot find the
file". The wizard did not fully work on the desktop, but
was fine on the Acer. I've tried "starting" the service
in Admin tools, it sets as "started", but makes no
difference.

I spent 3 hrs on the phone last week to an MS techie who
couldn't solve this. To date they havn't got back to me.
I've even written to MS UK Chief Exec and got fobbed off.

Anyone any ideas ? In view others users probs the last
thing I want to do is re-instal XP after religiously
installing all updates.

Mike (sorry for length of this !)

hiya mate.

the wireless adapter is from Sitecom. the only bt kit i
have is their speed touch USB broadband modem. what i've
got is the peer to peer, ad hoc setup with the desk top
acting as the internet acces point (except it won't, cos
ICS won't enable.)

bt did tell me that none of their settings or kit would
interfere with my wireless network - indeed, they market
a Linksys adapter from their site which is very similar
to the sitecom unit.

i don't no what is built into the laptop but they are
both 802.11B units and both computers see each other and
the sharing works fine - its just that ICS wont enable on
the desktop.
