My HD & CD drives don't show option of enabling DMA, these are 18 month old
drive & were working fine under win 2000 pro.
Where as XP does not show these properties in device manager. I tried
uninstalling & reinstalling too, that does not work either.

Using Nero info tool I get to see the following:
Primary IDE channel
master DMA is On
Primary IDE channel
slave DMA is Off
---------------------------------

Secondary IDE channel
master DMA is ON
Secondary IDE channel
slave DMA is Off.

"On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry
value"

sorry for my ignorance but I don't know which "value to add" I get 5 options
Edit>new> string/binary/dword/multi-string/expandable string.

Which one should I add.
Thanks.

Update
Un-installing the Intel application accelerator did the job, it blocks these
DMA settings for some reason.

Hope it helps others having this problem.
