Robert

I am trying to enable DMA in my Secondary IDE Master but
it is stuck in PIO mode only.I have WinXP,Asus P4PE,60GB
HDD (Maxtor 6Y060L0,256MB DDR RAM).ATI all in wonder
Radeon 7500.(ASUS Motherboard is P4PE/LAN/1394/SATA-
UAY,SOCKET 478,INTEL 845PE CHIPSET/DDR333/FSB533)

Primary Master/DEVICE 0:PIO4,UDMA5(both in gray in
BIOS),Transfer Mode DMA if available, current trasfer mode
is ultra dma mode 5

Primary Slave/DEVICE 1:Auto Detection,DMA if
available.Current transfer mode:not applicable

Secondary Master/DEVICE 0 DVD-ROM (SONY DDU1621) in
PIO4,UDMA2.Transfer mode DMA if available but
note:current transfer mode is PIO mode!!!

Secondary Slave/DEVICE 1: CD-RW(SONY
CRX22081),PIO4,UDMA2.Transfer mode DMA if
available,Current Transfer Mode is UDMA2.

As you will notice both Secondary master and
slave have the same settings in BIOS (PIO4,UDMA2)but
strangely enough only the CD-RW (Secondary Slave)have DMA
enabled??Why is that so?Can i enable DMA for the DVD-ROM?
I (By the way,i checked my user guide regarding
asus P4PE/LAN/ 1394/ SATA-UAY and it says for the
IDE:2xUltra DMA 100/66/33 Connectors.Does that mean i can
have only 2 UltraDMA enabled devices:Hard Disc (Primary
Master) and CD-RW(Secondary Slave).If so,how can i get
my DVD-ROM to be enabled.I noticed on their website:

Accessories:
User's manual
IDE cable
FDD cable
I/O shield
S/PDIF out module (optional)
2 port IEEE1394 module and 2 x IEEE1394 cable (on 1394
model only)
2-port USB2.0 / Game port module
InterVideo WinCinema (Gold version)
2 x Serial ATA cable (on Serial ATA model only)
2-connector UltraDMA cable (on Serial ATA model only)
3-connector UltraDMA cable

I am a beginner so perhaps someone can enligten me?
Thanks guys and any comment will be welcomed.

Hi;
Tried Cd-Writer as Master before DVD as Slave on that second IDE?

Mikey

My prefered setup would be:
Maxtor HDD on 1st IDE and Jumpered as Master (with Slave present)
DVD on 1st IDE and SLAVED (or 2nd option is: Cable Select if BIOS doesn't
detect properly).

WRITER on 2nd IDE as Master.
That way there's no two-way circulation on the same "street" when writing to
CD-Rom Disk from HDD or DVD.
