w2k server sp4 ... all windowsupdate.com updates applied

start-up ....

press ctrl-alt-del

logon box is displayed ("user name","password") ...

"shut down" button is grayed-out (disabled) ...

is it possible to enable this button by changing a registry key?

Sure but it's easier to use the Local Security Policy (secpol.msc)

Local Policy, Security Options,
Allow system to be shutdown without having to log on = Enabled

This is a security degradation though.

Also this is W2K Pro, but IIRC it is the same in SRV.
