Enable Internet Connection Firewall

I have Windows XP Home Edition and have been trying to
enable the ICP using the directions provided by
Microsoft. The directions take me to Network Connections
in Control Panel. One set provides to click the
connection on which you want to use the ICP and then
click Properties. The other provides to click the
connection and then select "Change settings of this
connection" under Network Tasks.

Both options direct me to select "Protect my computer and
network by limiting or preventing access to this computer
from the internet" check box.

My problem; When I select either "Properties" or "Change
settings of this connection" nothing happens. It will
not advance to the next step for me to click the check
box.

Would appreciate any help/advise on a solution to this
problem.
 
Hi Roger,

You just need to go to the properties of the connection and then click on
the "Advanced" tab and you will find the check box for "Protect my computer
and network....."

Go to Control Panel/double left-click "Network Connections/on the Drop Down
Menu, left click "Properties" once/left click the "Advanced" Tab
once/checkmark the Box at ---Internet Connection Firewall, etc-- by left
clicking once. If I remember correctly, both ways mentioned in Help and
Support lead you to the same "Properties" Box. No matter as long as you get
it activated. Repost to let us know if you have other problems activating
it.

You'll either need to find a 3rd party firewall that is compatible
with AOL, or switch to a real ISP that is compatible with the real
Internet..

AOL is an on-line content provider that ignores international
Internetworking standards in favor of its own proprietary products,
and has deliberately made its connection software incompatible with
both WinXP's built-in firewall and WinXP's Internet Connection Sharing
feature. AOL's proprietary connection applet is deliberately designed
to preclude your setting/adjusting any of its properties, to include
enabling/disabling WinXP's ICF and ICS.
