Todd Hudson

I am using Vista Ultimate RTM.

I disabled the bluetooth icon. How do I get it back?

thanks

Todd,
Hi,

Do this,
Control Panel\Hardware and Sound>Bluetooth Devices.

When the Bluetooth Devices window pops up-Options tab> check the box "Show
the Bluetooth icon in the notification area"

:-)

Jeff

Hmm,

In RTM, if I open Start> and type Bluetooth in the search bar at the
bottom-Bluetooth devices pops up at the top> click on it and you should see
the Bluetooth devices window, with the options tab.
It's in the options tab>near the bottom.
If not,try this
right click the taskbar>properties>notifcation tab>customize button>
look for the bluetooth devices icon, it may be set to "Hide when inactive"
change it to "show"

Jeff

Your 2nd step does not show a Bluetooth anything.

If I follow your 1st sugestion, a pop up box displays files with bluetooth
in it or named bluetooth. No box showing bluetooth devices.

Todd,
What version of Vista are you running?
is your bluetooth card enabled?
is this a laptop?
when I type bluetooth in the search bar in start, I get two
choices-Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard, and Bluetooth Devices.
I'm speaking of the second one-Bluetooth Devices

I'm running RTM, and I get two options using method 1.
Other than that, I'm out of ideas, but I'll keep looking into it.

Jeff

I am running Vista Ultimate RTM on a laptop with bluetooth integrated into
the motherboard.

Hello Todd,
What Devices show in Device Manager as Bluetooth Devices?
There should be Bluetooth devices installed before the Microsoft Bluetooth
control panel icon is present.

Open an Elevated CMD prompt.
Then run bthprops.cpl which is what the Bluetooth control panel icon runs
when selected.
Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]

I know my laptop has BT as it was working in XP and a friend has bT running
on Vista using the exact same model of laptop, HP nw8240.

That said, there is nothing in Device MAnager that says BT.

Todd,

Well looks like you have Darrell on the case now,
that's good.
Just one more question from me and I'll let ya deal with Darrell.

Does your laptop have a Bluetooth light on it?
My Dell does, and if Bluetooth is turned off, it won't be lit up.
One time, I accidentally turned off the radio, and the light nor the icon in
Vista showed-
plus I noted that you said that device manager doesn't see it.
Maybe try downloading the driver for your HP nw8240 ?
here's the link to that exact page:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ob-41543-1

Darrell can take it from here-good luck

Jeff
