I wanted to know that if I install a firewall then does it have a fixed way
to disable and then enable it? What I mean is ... we have so many firewalls.
so if I have to disable and enable it then does it means for different
firewalls we have different methods?

I have to disable and enable a firewall on my friends laptop which is not
giving access to transfer data to another connected PC to this laptop. I
don't remember the way ... but where can I disable and then enable it?

And if I frequently enable and disable it does it gets recorded somewhere
that I disabled and enabled so many times????

thanks!

This is a bit confusing. But if i understand: you want to know if all
different firewalls are disabled by the same method, and is this activity
logged?
a) Disablig: No, there is no standord way. It depends on the firewall. But
in general it's a pretty simple procedure.
b) Logging: depends on firewall, as well.

If you ask the question, "how do i disable my firewall, it is a <your
brand here>" you may get a better answer.
Or you can just look at the help files associated with the firewall
program.

Assuming a software firewall, start the firewall software from the
Start|Programs menu and search the help file for "enable" and "disable"

ok thanks...it did help answer my question to an extent.

If this is not too confusing and vague...what the most common way
to disable a firewall. do I need to administrative tools...or do I
need to click to properties of network sharing and uncheck 'file
and printing \' option.

It depends on the software firewall. It's that simple. There is no
univerally applicable answer.
If you state the brand/version of the SFW in use you may get a
definitive answer. The Win-XP ICF is build-in. Is that the one? If
not there is often a SFW item in the System Tray that may offer a
context menu...

You would have to follow the instructions provided in the
firewall's documentation. There are a great many firewall products
available, and they're all different.
