I'm in the process of buying a new PC and choosing Vista as the operating
system. In the case where I have problem adapting to the new Vista's look &
feel and features (I'm an experienced XP user), would it possible to emulate
XP under my new Vista operating system?

One possible solution would be to install
WinXP in a Virtual Machine...have a look
at the following links:

Use Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 to
run multiple operating systems at
the same time on the same physical
computer.

that can be downloaded from this
page is very informative)

Not really. Best you can do is the classic look. Just get used to it
and move on, it's far easier.
