empty files

I noticed a folder that had all the files names still there, but all the
files showed 0 kbytes in size and are all empty. Is this a sign of a virus
or a hacker? Haven't seen any other issues yet...

No these were word docs, pdfs, and such, and all the dates were changed to
1/1/1990. This may have occurred today when someone was printing a web page
on Amazon, or looking at toys on the lego site..

Please provide fully qualified names and paths of the files.
 
This was a simple folder c:Joseph with 7 subfolders such as calvert, scouts,
Favorites, Lego stuff, and so on. Some folders had saved pictures, some had
word docs for school work, some files were saved pdfs from the lego and
bionicle sites. Some of the files were previously saved web pages from the
lego and bionicle sites...At the time he was using the computer on the web
the windows firewall was on.
