What program did you use to create the resume ? They would have to have the
same program or a program reader that is compatible with the program. . Jym

Colleen;
Windows XP is not a word processor.
What word processor did you use to write the cover letter?
Do not assume the resume is in Word.
Both should be in Word unless otherwise stated since most have Word.
You need to find out.
Email the package to a trusted friend and see what they get.
Can they open it with Word?

You don't mention that you have actually attached the resume file.
Just typing "Please find my cover letter and resume attached with this e
mail." won't be enough.

Jupiter: thanks for your help. I have windows XP. I went to WORD and typed my cover letter (s). The resume writer DID use Word when he originally emailed me my resume. It was 2 years ago if that makes any difference, but he did use WORD. p.s. I HATE Technology..LOL!

Assuming, you are actually attaching a file to your email and your possible
employers do not have a program that opens a Word document you could:

Open your resume in your copy of Word and copy and paste it into your
email.

If your possible employers have the free Acrobat Reader, you could
convert your resume.doc file into a resume.pdf file. Adobe offers a free 5
conversions online trial at:
http://createpdf.adobe.com/index.pl/2692008607.96048?BP=IE . You will need
to registrar to use the trial.

Try sending the attachments in RTF format - open cover note & resume
in Word then save as file type RTF

I a guessing from what you say that you have Windows XP and you have
Microsoft Word (a word processor that runs on the system XP). Since you
have Word, try opening the document that you created in your own copy of
Word and check that it's not corrupted or something.

Recommendation: In today's world ... don't let on to your potential
employers that you hate technology.

I created a document in Microsoft Works Word Processor. I then saved it in My Documents. I then e-mailed several people and included an attatchment with the e-mail of my document. Everyone opened the e-mail, but could not open the document, or it was just a bunch of x's adn o's. Please advise.

Tyler;
The recipients have to have MS Word to read the file.
Save as *.rtf instead of *.doc.

You saved in Works format and your correspondents don't have Works.
Find out from them what type of word processor they have (probably
Word). Send them the file in the format they have. Or pick a generic
format like *.rtf. Use Menu: Save/As command.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
