Can you advise me on how to create an emergency repair
disk in Windows XP. I am aware that it is now called ASR
now but in the backup utility which is the only place I
have found that suggests where to create this disk wants
to save over a Gig of data. I want to be able to restore
the system from the recovery console with a disk should I
need to.

Can you tell me how to create the appropriate disks that
would need to be used should be need to.

thanks

Anton

A DOS boot disk (aka Startup Disk) is pretty useless if your hard disks are formatted as NTFS, as DOS based utilities can't read NTFS files.

One alternative is Bart's PE. This utility creates a bootable CD, with the core functionality of Windows XP, allowing you to run various programs like Windows Explorer, Regedit and others when your system will not boot.
