One of the most commonly used audio codecs I have seen used in AVIs is the
AC3 codec.

If you have already tried that one and it did not work there is a useful
program called GSpot which will examine the AVI file, and most of the time
tell you which codec is required.

Unfortunately I recently had to reformat my hard drive but forgot to backup
my I.E. favorites so I no longer have URLs for GSpot or the AC3 codec.
