I am a college student with a huge paper due and I cannot figure out how to
do the page numbers the way I am required to. I have a cover page, a table of
contents, and the body of the report (5 pages). There are to be no page
numbers on the cover page and table of contents. The numbers on the body of
the report have to start at 1 on the first page of the body. I have tried the
suggestions of my classmates, but they are not running Word 2007; and their
help isn't helping me. I'm getting desperate, please help.

You should post in a MS Word newsgroup.
This is for the Vista O/S.

The idea is the same in Word 2007 as in older versions. The difference is
finding it in the new ribbon menu.

First, you need to put the cover page/TOC in a different section than the
body of the paper (i.e. use "insert section break - next page").

Then go to Page Layout and click on that little arrow looking thing in the
lower right corner of the Page Setup box. Click on the Layout tab. Under
Headers and Footers, put a check mark in "Different first page".

If you have the cover page/TOC in its own section, you can then play with
the "Apply to:" choices found at the bottom of the Page Setup window.

As mentioned above, this is no different than older versions of Word...you
just had to know the "secret" of how to open that Page Setup window.

Good luck with your paper!
