Hi everyone. I am about ready to chew my arm off! Hope
someone can help.

I Have been unsuccessfully trying to link 2 PPT
presentations together and continously get the same error
message that the linked object cannot be found - server
application may need to be reinstalled. I have downloaded
all PPT / Office updates, tried everything per
instructions and no matter which 2 sets of files I try it
with, the error messge is the same. All I simply want to
do is to create a looping show (there is a music file
which will run throughout both files and it IS embedded
and does work) with 2 seperate PPT files. Is there some
kind of patch that exists that maybe I have not applied
that addresses ths problem? Everything is running on XP
and is the latest version of Office XP.

I have as I mentioned aboce - tried this with another
2 "test" files (2 slides in each presentation) - with the
same result. So - I am pretty confident it is not a
corrupt file or something like that.

Has anyone else expereinced this problem.

Please email me any advice or thought to
(e-mail address removed).

Thanks!

Hi Rick,

Arm chewing is not healthy <g>.

Have you looked at :

http://www.powerpointbackgrounds.com/powerpointlooping.htm

It is a way to link and run a second presentation until you hit escape.
Then, all of your sounds should play with the particular presentation, or so
I believe. However, if for some reason the sound file is getting lost, have
you tried putting it in the same folder as your presentation, and linking to
it?

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

If none of the suggestions provided give you the functionality that you
were looking for or, if you (or anyone else reading this message) have
suggestions for how and why you think PowerPoint should provide this
functionality (or make it easier), don't forget to send your feedback (in
YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).

I have installed the updates mentioned - did that first
thing upon expereincing the problem. Could it be that ALL
the OS updates must also be installed for this to work
correctly? I am running XP.

*sighs* NOW you tell me *looking at my stub*.

To reply back - yes - ALL my files were in the same
location, and when I did a simple test between 2 NEW
files (shows) I created to link those to see if that
problem persists, the same problem happened. I DID go to
the webpage suggested as soon as I expereinced the
problem to make sure I knew HOW to do it. Error keeps
saying cannot find Server Application - need to reinstall
application etc etc. Same problem happens on a totally
seperate machine (Thinkpad running XP - Home Edition)
with the same results.

This should not be THAT hard to do!

Also - I have appled the patch before coming to this
forum mentioned in another reply here to my posting.

IS IT POSSIBLE (LIKELY) THAT ALL FIXES AND PATCHES TO THE
OS NEED TO ALSO BE APPLIED - AND WOULD THAT CAUSE THE
PROBLEM IF THE LATEST SERVICE PACK WERE NOT INSTALLED?

Again - this question is regarding Windows XP and not
PowerPoint - at this point.

Thanks - Rick
