Embedding music file in PowerPoint

Okay--

I have looked at all the tips on this and I am obviously
not doing something correctly. I have created a .pps, I
went to tools and changed the link files larger than
setting to 50000 --- I inserted a MP3 file in it, the file
size of the MP3 is approximately 3900 KB. I sent the file
via email to a co-worker, the music will not plan in the
PPS. It plays on my machine but will not play on his. I
even tried converting the MP3 file to a .wav file and it
will not play in the presentation at all, not even on my
machine. Please help!

The only type of music file that you can embed, is a .wav file. All others are
linked. If you converted the file to a .wav file, then you need to reinsert it

I re-inserted it as a .wav and it still will not play. Now
it will not even play on my machine?? Any additional
thoughts on what the problem could be?

As Michael has said, MP3s cannot be embedded. You must send the MP3 file along
with the presentation. How did you convert the MP3 to a WAV? Just changing the
file extension will not do the trick. There are many programs which will do the
conversion. You can go to Google and search for - - convert MP3 to WAV.

I completed a presentation with music and transition sounds--it worked for a year--now I still get the sounds but not the music. Think I'm in the same boat with Terri. I can find my music files and their listed as .wma.

I am using PowerPoint 2002. I simply changed the file
extension to .wav which I understand by a previous post
that this is not the correct way to convert -- so that
would explain why it still is not working.

Can't do that. The two formats are completely different. There are a number of
pieces of software out there that will do the conversion. Just do a Google
search on MP3 to WAV. You also have to keep in mind, that your file size when
you convert is going to increase dramatically going from MP3 to WAV

Correct. That's a lot like changing the label on the salt container to read
"Sugar". It's not going to fool anybody that tries to eat it. ;-)

The file extension (the .WAV or .MPG on the end of the file name) is like its
label. It tells Windows and your programs what's inside the file.

Changing the name won't change the contents, but it will make all kinds of
other trouble.
