Embedding an icon into a website

I frequently use the Mozilla Firefirefox browser and find that sometimes
after I visit a website that I have bookmarked, an icon appears next to
where the website appears on the bookmark dialog as though the icon is
somehow embedded in that website. How is this done?
 
It does, but only if you bookmark the site.

<sigh>IE is just soooooooo 20th Century</sigh>
