The Icon I had in my documents for an Embedded sound has stopped appearing
and now it just says {Embed Sound Rec}.

I have obviously checked/unchecked something but can't find out what.

Any ideas please?

I Have since found out that if I highlight the text and press CTRL+Shift+F9
the icon appears. Obviously a clue, but would like to get back to having just
the Icons appearing first time.

Press Alt+F9 instead, to toggle the display from field codes to field
results. If you press Ctrl+Shift+F9, you have unlinked the field and you
have only the icon (which won't do anything).

Thanks Suzanne, that certainly works OK.

Do you know if it can it only be toggled by pressing Alt+F9, and I pressed
it accidentally sometime, or is there a check-box that toggles it as well?

For most fields, right clicking on them allows you to select something along
the lines of "Toggle Field Codes". You might have accidentally hit that as
well.

There's also a "Field codes" check box on the View tab of Tools | Options
that accomplishes the same things as Alt+F9. The equivalent in Word 2007 is
Office Button | Word Options | Advanced: Show document content: Show field
codes instead of their values.
