I am unable to embed a midi file in my Powerpoint
Presentation. The Midi file is saved as a reference only
and is not portable (redistributable).

This is unlike a wave file which can be saved embedded.

If anyone can tell me how to embed a midi file in
powerpoint to overcome this serious defect please do.

The only files that can be embedded, are .wav files, the remainder are linked

I am using wave sound clips for my "voice over" and want
to run the midi as background theme music for the entire
length of the slideshow and it must be embedded for
redistribution.

I have been over this newsgroup and have come to the
conclusion that Microsoft have really sluffed Powerpoint
support for midi files by not allowing them to be
embedded.

I wrote my own Windows Slideshow program back in Windows
95 to do this because Powerpoint wasn't robust enough to
handle this back then...

I surely hope that 10 years later they have got their act
together and that I am just missing something...

Thanks anyone who has the answer to implementing embedded
midi in PP.

Bill

Thanks Michael.

Obviously not the answer I wanted.

Regards,

Bill

It is true that midi files are linked and not embedded, but that is no
reason to prevent you from distributing your presentation. Prior to
inserting the midi, move it to the same folder where your presentation is
stored. Then link the midi. The link will be "relative" and will work as
long as the two files are distributed together and kept in a common folder,
either on a CD or on the target machine. It doesn't matter what the folder
is called. They just have to stay together.

Thank you Sonia. This is the answer I was looking for, and
at the risk of being self-deprecating, I am surprised that
I could not solve this problem for myself!

My faith in Microsoft has once again been restored, and I
admit to being unnecesarily negative... must have been
having a bad day.

Thanks for your patience and good workaround.
