I'm using PowerPoint 2000 (on XP) and can't figure out how to embed a true
type font in a design template (*.pot). The template isn't much good without
the fonts. I can embed a font in a regular presentation - no problem. Any
ideas? Suggestions?
I'm fairly sure that embedded fonts are considered to be part of the content of
a presentation, not part of the design, so applying a template wouldn't bring
along fonts, even if you could embed them.
In any case, font embedding was never intended as a way to distribute fonts -
in fact, it's been set up specifically to prevent that except where the font
developer specifically permits it. If it hadn't been done that way, the font
folks never would have gone along with it at all and a lot of lawyers would
have gotten rich off the squabbles. ;-)
You could distribute a sample presentation rather than a template; that's less
than desirable but it may be your only choice if font embedding is necessary.
Even then, the users might elect not to embed fonts when they re-save your
presentation under a new name.
Perhaps the best bet would be to buy enough licenses for the fonts you need,
then create an installer program to install your templates AND the fonts on the
user's system.
