Emails vanish

This moring when I got up I had 19 unread emails. I clicked on the first
one and they all vanished.
This afternoon after taking my wife to the Dr. I had 28 unread emails.
Clicked on the first one,
they all vanished. The are not in my 'deleted' file.
What happened and how can I retreve them.

Check to see if your view is filtered. View > Current View.

I did the view> Current view..but did not see any 'filtered' options.
