Emails not being deleted by server

I am using Windows Mail and, having downloaded all my emails yesterday, on
downloading today's messages, I find that all of yesterday's are received
again! I have ensured that "Leave a copy of messages on Server" is
unchecked, but what else do I need to do? This is happening intermittently,
but I am assured that there is not a general problem at the server's end.
Today I downloaded over 1000 messages and if I cannot clear the problem, I
am likely to have twice that number soon.

By design, if you do not get 100% of the mail being held for you by the server, the server does not delete any of the mail.
Then you will get the same mail again when you reconnect. This is done for your protection.

If you are getting more than a 1000 messages, there is a better than average chance one or more messages did not get delivered.
You need to check your ISP's web mail to see if they are clearing.

If those 1000+ messages are not 90% spam, you need a better email program that Windows Mail.
If they are spam, you need a better ISP that filters this crap.
