Emails downloading automatically?

Can anyone please tell me what's happening here? I use Agent, NOD32
(updated automatically), Zone Alarm Pro and, recently, Mailwasher Pro
(with Win XP). Over the last couple of days I've returned to the PC on
several occasions to find NOD32 displaying the warning it shows when
an infected email is d/loaded to the PC, but I can't understand how
the download is happening. My understanding was that Mailwasher Pro
simply shows me emails sitting waiting on the server.

Can anyone please explain this?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

That's because the email client program, I'll assume OE, is pulling emails
from the ISP's email server to the INBOX on a timed basis. I think the
default setting is every 5 minutes. Also at OE start-up, it will pull the
emails from the ISP email server too. These settings can be disabled or
changed, if using OE or Outlook. Google is your friend <g>.

Hi Duane,

That's not it. I don't use OE: I use Agent, and it doesn't
automatically download emails. That's why I don't understand it.
Thanks for your suggestion, though. Any other ideas? I'm completely
stumped, but I'm worried because I definitely don't want stuff
d/loaded to my PC without my knowledge.

If this Agent is not pulling the emails, then something is doing it. Not
to say that your machine has been compromised, but I would be looking
around on the machine for possible unknown port connections by an
application running on the machine. I would also be looking at what's
running on the machine and what other programs the running programs are
using.

Active Ports and (Process Explorer or PRCview) and all are free use
Google. Process Explorer and PRCview will allow you to see what the
programs are using while running.

Many thanks, Duane - I'll go and check that out :-(

You may have configured it to display the complete e-mail in the preview
pane. Look on the bar just above that pane to see what your settings
are.

Cheers,
