3 outlook 2003 machines, all using pop3 accounts. On all the machines,
emails come in during the day; sometimes a random email message
disappears leaving no trace of ever being in the inbox. They do not
get sent to the junk mail, or deleted items, they just disappear.
Anyone have any idea why?

Are you using an anti-virus email scanner?

avg antivirus is installed on all machines, with the email scan
enabled. does avg have a history of deleting authentic emails?

All anti-virus programs that have email scanning can cause problems. It's
not necessary to use, because your auto-protect will cover it.

Email scanning especially causes problems with Outlook Express, and can also
do so with other email clients.

Simply disabling the feature doesn't always work. You may have to
completely reinstall the AV program, without installing the email scanner.
