Emailing/Transferring Contacts

I emailed a group of contacts to load onto a new computer. Both are Windows
XP. When I opened the emailed contact, it just opens like an email message.
How do I get it to open in my contact section, in the template it was in? Or
any suggestions for other means (not email) to transfer the contact
files/forms from one computer to another?

To email contacts as attachments, you need to create a message in rich-text format.

I have exported and imported my contacts now, but have lost my custom form on
about half of them. How can I get them to show up in the correct form?
(Email from my old computer with the original contacts is not an option).

Custom items cannot be exported or imported. Why are not not simply reusing
your original PST?
 
All my contacts used a custom form, but after importing, only about half open
in that form. The rest opens in the default form.

I don't know what you mean about "simply reusing your original PST". My
original contacts are on a different computer, and I'm trying to transfer
them to a new computer, if that helps to clarify my situation.
 
What Brian is saying it that you should just copy the pst from the old
machine and then put in on your new machine (no import no export) and it
should work just fine.

Okay, I need help with doing that. ie creating the pst of my contacts (or how
to find it) to copy off of the old computer and to properly copy them onto my
new computer. The instructions he sent me were to import/export/back up, not
to copy and put the copy on my new machine. Thanks!!
 
On your old machine go to control panel/mail/data file. It will show you
the full path and file name that is being used as your Outlook file. Copy
that file to a portable media (Outlook must be closed).

Then go to new machine and copy the file to a location where you want to
store your Outlook information.

Then go to control panel/mail/data file and add the copied file. Then make
the new file your default file. Now when you open outlook it will use the
information from the copied file as your Outlook. If you have any
information in the Outlook file that was being used on the new machine you
can go to file/open/outlook data file and open the file and drag the
information from the one file to the other file.

The folders these files are in are generally hidden folders, so you'll have
to enable viewing hidden files and folders in order to be able to see them.
 
I've done this, and it only brought over blank offline folders, not the
content from my mailbox or more importantly my contacts. And I only want to
bring over my contacts, will this do that or bring over files from other
functions such as tasks, email, etc.


But since I’ve been using my contacts, I would much prefer to find a way of
transferring the contacts that are using the default form to my custom form
instead of copying contacts which have now been updated (which is all 300 of
them). Can I do that and how?
 
Just for good measure I tried this again. The only folder it showed was
Offline Files, and there was no information there when I got it on my new
computer (also, there wasn't a default function I could use). Then I tried
making a personal folder file, and again, empty files. I couldn't find a way
to copy just the contacts.

One thing I did notice is if I looked at the settings for the offline
folders (what was originally there), it's set at compressible encryption.
Any insight?
