Maybe not...... www.sentthere.com

SentThere works behind-the-scenes using the highly acclaimed SentTrace
Technology. Unlike other competing platforms, SentThere eliminates the need
for the mail recipient to authorize the notification. And you don't have to
worry about privacy. SentThere utilizes advanced encryption mechanisms when
communicating with the SentTrace Technology server. In fact, SentTrace sends
absolutely no personally identifiable information.

Sounds like a web bug system. Totally useless if the receiver doesn't
display HTML email in his emailer.

Some of us simply delete all HTML email. Only spammers and idiots
sent HTML emails so nothing is lost.

In the latter situation SendTrace probably wouldn't know whether the
email didn't arrive, or wasn't opened.

As for ...

" You must register every e-mail address you wish to use with
SentThere. "

It is hard to tell whether they try to monitor email recipients, email
posters, or both !

The questions are "Is this a system for harvesting of email
address' ?" "Can we spell "spyware" ? "Snake Oil ?"

A clue that something is wrong here is when they don't explain
how their system works.

Regards, John.

My work often entails sending data in tabular format to my email recipients.
HTML works fine! Don't be so quick to dismiss HTML please. The best way is
(at least in OE) to work in OFFLINE mode, so no connection to the Net is
made thereby reducing if not eliminating the risk of web bugs.

Although I don't approve of web bugs there *are* times when I wonder if my
email has been received.

There's a thread in GRC.PRIVACY about either this or a very similar
'application'.
"Checking To See If Someone Read Your Email".
I know the poster's usually right on the ball as he posted info on a
major MS vulnerability several months after it was spotted, posted (by
someone else) and scoffed at by the learned regulars. He still beat the
rest of GRC to that one as well....
(That last bit's purely for all those at GRCNGs who visit here - up your
virtual kudos index and find it.......)
